International Center of Excellence in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery

Obesity Health SC in collaboration with the Covadonga Hospital in Veracruz have been accredited as an International Center of Excellence in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). This internationally recognized organization evaluates and accredits surgical centers around the world to ensure safety, effectiveness and efficiency in patient care.

To achieve accreditation, during a long process, experts in the area of bariatric and metabolic surgery examined several aspects of our center to ensure that high quality criteria in medical, surgical and logistical care were met and maintained. The aspects to be evaluated were the following:

• Bariatric surgeon, who must be designated as a “Surgeon of Excellence” by SRC, must be certified by CMCBEM and have extensive experience and a high volume of cases performed.
• Existence of coverage and 24-hour on-call services by surgeons and specialists trained in the management of patients undergoing bariatric surgery.
• Postoperative consultation and follow-up, aimed at promoting correct adherence to both medical and nutritional indications and recommendations.
• Equipment, instruments and facilities (quality surgical material, hospital facilities such as radiology, intensive care, blood bank, recovery, among others).
• Medical records, in compliance with internationally recognized standards for the categorization of post-bariatric surgery patients.
• Experience and certifications of surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical instrument technicians and nursing staff who participate in the surgical process
• Areas of nutrition and psychology focused and with experience in the exclusive management of bariatric patients.
• Low rate of adverse events, in line with the percentage estimated by centers of excellence in bariatric and metabolic surgery around the world. As well as adequate management of these, in line with internationally recognized treatment standards.
• Designated medical director with experience in medical processes in bariatric and metabolic surgery

The same organization, Surgical Review Corporation, has certified one of our surgeons, Dr. Rey Romero, as a "Surgeon of Excellence" and "Master Surgeon" in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. In addition, we also have certifications from the Mexican Council of Surgery for Obesity and Metabolic Diseases, among others. These emblems are proof of the high quality standards that are maintained in our team, in terms of safety and effectiveness.
